Is the course open to the public?
Yes. Old Trail is open to public play seven days a week. Members enjoy 14-day advance tee sheet access, and daily-fee players can book up to 7 days in advance.
What's the dress code?
Collared shirts required for men. Denim, cut-offs, and athletic shorts are not permitted on the course. Metal spikes are not allowed.
Do you rent clubs?
Yes. Rental sets are available in the Pro Shop. Club rentals in the Swing Lab are $40. Call (434) 823-8101 for on-course rental availability and pricing.
Can I walk the course?
Walking is permitted for members anytime Monday–Thursday and after 11 AM Friday–Sunday during peak season. Daily-fee players may walk after 2 PM during peak season. Walking is permitted for everyone, anytime, during early spring and winter. Push carts are available for $8.
What's the pace of play expectation?
4 hours 15 minutes. Rangers are on the course to help keep groups moving. Please play ready golf and keep up with the group in front of you.
Do you host outings and tournaments?
Yes. We host corporate outings, charity tournaments, and private events throughout the year. Call the pro shop at (434) 823-8101 to discuss availability and packages.
Is the driving range open to non-golfers?
Yes. All players must check in at the Pro Shop before using the range or practice facility. Small basket (~35 balls) is $12 and large basket (~75 balls) is $18. Members have unlimited range access with select membership tiers.
Can I bring my own food and beverage?
No outside food or beverage is permitted on the course. Per Virginia ABC laws, all alcoholic beverages must be purchased through the golf course. Personal coolers are prohibited — Old Trail provides a club cooler on every golf cart.
What is the rain check policy?
Rain checks are issued for weather-related instances. An 18-hole rain check is issued if you have played fewer than 6 holes. If you have played 6–12 holes, a 9-hole rain check is issued. If you have played 13 or more holes, no rain check will be issued. No cash is issued for greens or cart fees.
What are the cart path rules?
Each golf cart operator must have a valid driver's license. Daily cart path rules (90-degree or cart path only) are determined by the superintendent and posted in the Pro Shop. All carts must remain on the cart path on par 3s. Please observe all cart signs and roped areas.
Do I need to check in before using the range?
Yes. All players, regardless of member or guest status, must check into the Pro Shop before proceeding to the driving range or practice facility.
Do gift cards expire?
Yes. All gift cards and certificates expire one year from the date of issue. We are unable to extend or honor expired gift cards, certificates, or coupons.
What about handicap flags?
Handicap flags require documentation from a doctor. The professional staff has full discretion on approvals. Carts with handicap flags may not be driven within 30 feet of greens or approaches and must stay on the path at tee boxes and all par 3s.
